Here is what the judge had to say:
This is a beautiful rose. I like the way the maker has come in close to the subject with a slightly out of focus non-competing background. The colors here are excellent and it appears that the image was made under overcast lighting that which defused the light and allows all the details to be seen, particularly in the flower. There are no harsh shadows, just a beautiful well done rose. The image is a vertical that shows of the vertical line to the stem of the blossom. Also note this is a very simple image, it is not complex and as a result it is very effective.
