The Letter "Q"

It's that time again to support one of our supporters, Jason D. Moore Photography. Be sure and go to his blog and see all of the Letter "Q" photos.

Every picture should tell a story. . . Guess where this is? When I was back in Nebraska I went out to the corn harvest and spent two days on a combine for the first time. Grew up and lived in Nebraska for 23 years and really didn't know much about harvest.

The following photos show the process of going from the combine to the grain bins. Be sure and page through the next page, there are two pages of photos.

Chad saw the camera around my neck as I walked up to the combine and decided the windshield needed cleaning if I was going to take any photos.

The corn is off loaded from the combine on the fly. The process doesn't stop for anything.

As you can see, the process doesn't stop for nightfall. The weather doesn't always cooperate so they go until they finish the field and that may be late into the night.

Rusty Saw

For some reason I'm getting all the Class A's photos out of the way early. . . I reach into a box and pull out a photo randomly is the way I've been doing this. Janet Gilstrap named this one "Rusty Saw".

Portrait

This photo is by James Edwards who is in Class A and titled; 'Mara'.

We had elections at the last meeting so in addition to my duties here as the official blogger, I was elected president of the club. The good news; the only duties the president has is to one, run the first few minutes of the club doing announcements, and two, book the meeting room for the next month before I leave. Guess I can do that!

Old Numbers

This is another day, tomorrow actually, when Jason D. Moore Photography blog has his bi-monthly photo share day; http://jasondmoore.com/blog/. The subject this time was 'Old Numbers'. Every picture should tell a story so. . .

If you saw yesterday's post, I went back to my undergraduate college, Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE last weekend. Here's the side of one of two arches that greets you at the west entrance to the university. This one was from the class of 1897, the other one is from the class of 1886, but it's date reads "96" and since this was supposed to be 'old numbers' I thought the complete date of 1897 looked better.

Here's the arch from 1896, from the first graduating class from NWU. When I went there we were the "Plainsman" now they are the "Prairie Wolves", don't know exactly why the change. There must be a good story behind that change!

Sun Dial

This photo was taken at Nebraska Wesleyan University this past weekend. I went back to visit my mom and we took a side trip to Lincoln, NE which is where Wesleyan is located. This sun dial is dedicated to one of the long time professors of physics, Carrol Moore, just outside the science building on the west side of the campus.

More Fall Color

This will be the last of the fall color photos. We had a terrible wind last Wednesday and most of the leaves are gone now. I'm visiting my mom in Nebraska so I'll start a new subject when I get back.

Panorama out my back door

Last Saturday I hand held my camera and took a series of photos; yes I know that you should use a tripod. But my wife Debra said I needed to come out now and take the photos. And as the good husband that I am, I ran out the door with just camera in hand.

This was a series of 9 photos that I then took into camera raw and only slightly adjusted then went into PhotoShop and let it do it's job of stitching the photos together and then cropping it so I could put it up here on the blog. This is about 135 degree view just to the south of our patio in the backyard.

This was taken as the sun was setting last weekend. The tips of the burning bush turn bright red from top to bottom but the top leaves fall off before the bottom change color.

Crestock Photography contest

I thought I'd show something a little different today. Crestock Photography has a contest for graphic designers. They pick out a bunch of pictures, some with a related theme and some just off the wall. Then it's our job to create something out of nothing. The prizes are really great so they get some really good entries.

Here's the link to see the entries: http://www.crestock.com/blog/photoshop/contest2008/entries.aspx?round=12. I'm a graphic artist too, so I like to dabble once in awhile. I don't think my talent is anywhere close to some of those but go look and vote for your favorites.

Fall Color is Here!

Fall has finally arrived in Muskogee! The colors really didn't start to bust out until last Friday. I'll be posting some photos from this past weekend from my backyard. When I was out and about over the weekend there were spots of color, but my backyard seemed to be the best variety. Have a great week!
